People always ask me, how do we get kids to eat healthier, more wholesome food.

Well, there are numerous answers to that question, but one of the best ways is to get them in the kitchen!  It is amazing how when a child puts together even a simple snack, how that snack becomes more appealing, even if it is ‘healthy.

My daughter loves helping in the kitchen.  She has been preparing some of her own snacks since she was 3 years old. Granted, at that age, it may have been as simple as go to the refrigerator and get a cheese stick, but still something.  Children love to be independent and responsible and, I think, can do a lot more than most parents ask of them!

My daughter and I came up with the idea of Kid's Kitchen for Oh Lardy!  Every month or so, my daughter or one of Kelly's children will show you how to make a simple snack or a meal.

I hope you enjoy this first installment as she shows you how to make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich!  She usually has a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast and prepares her own almost every day!

Ingredients:
  • Peanut butter or other nut butter (buy nut butters)
  • Sprouted wheat bread (buy here)
  • Organic jelly or jam (buy here)
  • Optional Toppings:
    • dark chocolate chips (buy here)
    • raisins
    • sliced bananas
Method:
  1. Spread peanut butter on bread.
  2. Spread jelly on bread.
  3. Add toppings, if desired.
  4. Put slices of bread together and use kitchen scissors to cut in half.
  5. Enjoy!

Tip:  I let her cut her sandwiches with kitchen shears.  Much easier and safer than a knife.  She cuts bananas, carrots, etc. with a crinkle cutter.  You can check them out here:
