Forty years ago, I became worried about what might be in those jars of mushy baby food and started to whirr up our leftovers in a blender for my young daughter. We froze everything from blended leftover steamed broccoli to spaghetti and meatballs in ice cube trays. A quick thaw and warming of one or two cubes made a simple and healthy meal for her.

Fast-forward 40 years, and now I have a blog called FindYourEasy.com on living a simpler and more natural life, raising chickens, and family recipes. I found your site while looking for advice on raising chickens in a cold climate.

There’s a lot of value in “real food” and trying to avoid the toxins that are everywhere. Thanks for helping to spread the word.

This was a very long article, and very informative, thank you, it took me close to 2 hrs to read it. I was in a convo w/my daughter, Holly. She was a vegetarian when her children were born. She even started her children on vegies, she never bought jars from a store. Everything she did was working or trading fresh produce, eggs & anything she could get that was not full of chems. When her children got older they chose real food over candy. Holly only buys MAPLE SYRUP! I sent her you article, I hope she reads it, idk if there's a trader Joe's where she lives but they do have Costco. I think after she reads what I sent her, she'll look for more ways to keep her family healthy. Her children are now 20, 17 & 10. Holly's children still prefer real food opposed to sugary snacks. I'm going to try "REAL MAPLE SYRUP" fir the first time. Thank you for sending you messg out there on internet so I could read it for free.

Hi Ladies,

Nice to meet you. I have caught the same bug and can't get enough of real food. Nice to meet some other Mom's on the same path. I have been blogging too. It feels so important in these times to help other people who are challenged and do not know where to turn. I think together we all can make a huge difference. Here is to being smart empowered women, taking back what it means to be a Mom and thriving. Have a great day. Kim www.unbusyonpurpose.com Simple Artful Living

You didn't mention anything about how you came up with your website name.. "oh lardy".. although I imagine it stems from the great fallacy that lard is to be avoided like it is as unhealthy as butter. :)

Oh what a joy to read, you had me chuckling at the dinner party chat as I recall the same experiences and laughing out loud about comments from your children. My daughter told the mother of one of her class mates that the ice cream van sells ice cream was made from pigs fat. Whilst looking horrified she sweetly replied I don't think so darling as she bought them for her children and threw me a some what odd look! My daughters' beverage of choice is also kombucha and she is also partial to a side of natto these days. All the best and I am just about to try your deodorant recipe :-)

In reply to <a href="https://ohlardy.com/about/#comment-582111">Brandie</a>.

I do not know about making them for pets. I know many people dehydrate scobies for their dog but I have never done that (I don't have any pets) so am unclear. If you dehydrate at a low temperature (as low as your dehydrator will go) the probiotic element should be fine.
