DIY Organic Beauty Recipes

I have been wanting to do a review of this book for quite some time.  DIY Organic Beauty Recipes is the most comprehensive book that I have found on the subject to date.

I have been getting in to making my own personal products recently and this book came out at the perfect time!  The book itself is user friendly and easy to read.

It is complete with beautiful pictures and well researched content.  It is professionally designed and organized very well.  The book is just lovely and the content…even better!

Honestly, when I first opened this book, I expected to find a few familiar recipes, nothing totally new.  When I got to the table of contents, I was blown away!!

There, I found sections such as face and body cleansers, toners, hair care, lotions and balms, soaks and scrubs, baby care, toothpaste, deodorant, lip care, sunscreens, and bug sprays!  I really feel like Heather covered such a wide variety of personal care products, I am trying to figure what she left out!

Besides all of the great recipes, Heather includes research, links to find out more, and even a tutorial on how to render tallow.  I have tried several recipes in this book, and all of them have worked out great!  But, there are two recipes that I want to share with you today.

Eye Make-up Remover.

I had just run out of a store bought version, so when I saw this recipe in the table of contents, AND had the ingredients, I made a batch.  And it worked just as good, if not BETTER than my store bought version.  TWO ingredients, friends.  Two. Check it out…

2 ounces witch hazel
2 ounces olive oil

Mix the ingredients together and store it in a small clean container in a cool and dark place.  Dab some on a cotton ball and wipe across your eyes.  Voila!

My mascara had no trouble coming off and the skin around my eyes was nice and moisturized!  Check out the video tutorial!

Oil Cleansing

The other DIY Beauty Recipe that I was eager to learn more about was Oil Cleansing.

I had read about it here and there and the thought of washing my face with oil seemed so counter-intuitive.  When I saw that Heather included a section on oil cleansing, I thought perhaps it was time to give it a try myself.

After reading about oil cleansing, it made perfect sense to me!  Of course my skin got super oily because the soap or cleanser I just used just took all of the oils away.  Now my skin was working in overdrive to replace what I removed.

Oil cleansing works in that certain blends of oils can remove dirt and grime without taking away the natural oils.  Since starting with oil cleansing, my skin has been awesome.  It is clean and now I don't get as oily during the day.  I even use it to take off makeup.  At first I was skeptical, but it came right off!

Heather includes recipes for different skin types.  I use the combination skin recipe which is 1 part hazelnut oil, 1 part sweet almond oil, and 2 parts avocado oil.  Then I followed this tutorial on how to do oil cleansing.  If you haven't tried oil cleansing yet, you should!  It is amazing.

Are you curious about making your own beauty products, using quality ingredients?  This book is for you!  Each recipe comes with a beautiful picture that inspires you to make more products!
