I spend too, too, too much time cleaning, and my stress levels are definitely higher than I would like. I’m trying to switch to a minimalist lifestyle, and I can already see its benefits.

Thanks for the heads up that a person should embrace minimalism if they had a storage unit full of items that they barely use. When you said that, I thought that renting one can also help a person clean up a house that is filled with too many items. That way, doing this will help enforce the thought of only keeping items that will be used a lot (e.g. cookbooks, toiletries) to special occasions (e.g. Christmas lights, fancy tea set).

Your ‘signs your should try minimalism’ are all spot on! I especially resonated with spending too much time cleaning. These days I can clean our entire apartment in an hour. And I’m not talking a cursory ‘fly by’ either! 🙂

The days after my sister died made it clear to me that my collection of 5 different sizes of clothes, my 3 dish drainers (each for a different entertainment need), and my various bits of barware collected through the years will mean nothing to anyone but me. My sister was more of an antique hoarder so it was awful watching her sons load up the dumpster with things she was sure were worth keeping. I went home and tore my closet apart swearing I would never put my family through that. Another reason for turning to the minimalist lifestyle.

Interesting. I think I’m going to start tonight. The time I spend in my life for cleaning and arranging stuff I don’t use is of great value for me to send it that way.
