If you are a traditional foodie, a member of the Weston A. Price Foundation and/or a lover of nourishing foods like bone broth and ferments, you likely have heard of a product called Fermented Cod Liver Oil.

Both of our families have used this product due to its supposed superiority to regular fish oils.

Now there is a huge controversy blowing up over at the Weston A. Price Foundation.  There has been rumblings for quite awhile now that possibly Green Pastures FCLO is not what is claims it is.

Now this controversy has been blown up by a scathing report written by Dr. Kaayla Daniel, Vice President of the Weston A. Price Foundation.  She has reported that FCLO is not fermented, is rancid, contains trans fats and many other claims backed by testing she had done at various labs.

I have no idea what the real truth is about the Green Pastures FCLO products but am sure more transparency will come to light.  I hope the issue with FCLO turns out not to be true as it would be a huge blow to WAPF and the traditional food movement.  It will be interesting when Green Pastures and WAPF issue rebuttals to the report.

In the meantime, I highly encourage you to read the report.  She put a ton of work into it and you can download the report for free here: Hook, Line and Sinker: The Truth About Fermented Cod Liver Oil.

What are your thoughts?  Where do you think the truth lies?  I am holding off taking this supplement until more transparency emerges.

  1. I have been following this issue since Dr. Daniels’ report came out, and I am not taking sides. I really wish you would not throw around terms like “hoax” when the truth is still murky. Hyping the drama doesn’t really serve anybody in this issue. I have seen no reason yet to assume either party has intentionally perpetrated a fraud. Mistakes, carelessness, poor choices, overheated rhetoric? Who knows, the jury is still out as far as I’m concerned.
