thanks for this - i always have the butcher save out the suet and when needed i use some for making our soap. i have tons of soap on hand, but was going to make some pemmican for the birds. After pulling out the sweet bread and feeding to my layers, i was wandering if anyone had used a crockpot to render the suet. (have always used a roaster, but it's huge and needs watching to keep from burning the suet). I'm in the crock pot mode having enjoyed making jars and jars of apple butter from the apples of our tree. quick search and here you are at the top of the list. Thank you, will start a batch today.

I have tallow ready to go. How do you store it after you render it? Do you need to process the jars or store it in the refrigerator? If not, how long does it last before it goes bad?

No! I was worried about that, to be honest. It didn't smell at all. Just smelled sort of 'fatty' but not a bad smell nor a strong smell!
