There are lots of detox programs floating around out there.  I am sure you have heard of them and wonder if they can benefit your body.  Do you even need to do a detox?  How would it benefit you?  The thing is, your body detoxes all on its own, every day.  Your liver has that very important job, and it is really good at it.  However, it can only handle so much.  And when the liver is overloaded with toxins, they begin to build up in your body.  This build up of toxins can start to have a negative impact on your health.

So, how do you know if you need a detox?  Here are some signs pointing you to the nearest detox program: weight gain, allergies, muscle or joint pain, headaches, constipation, heartburn, brain fog, acne, autoimmune disease, just to name a few.

Your skin is your largest organ and it is part of the detoxification process.  You will often find dry brushing and saunas as part of the process.  Sweating out the toxins is a way of helping the body along.  However, as toxins are released some may find that their skin or acne gets worse.  While unpleasant, understand that it will improve and it is a sign that your body is detoxing and the process is moving along as it should.

Usually detox programs include lots of foods that are really good for cleansing the colon.  This makes sense because we get rid of a lot of toxins through our colons and bowel movements.  If you poke around the internet at all, it is supposed that bad breath is linked to a clogged or backed up colon.  As digestion improves, so should bad breath.

Detoxes help our immune system function better?  Think about it.  A detox program is helping our body along with one of it's natural processes.  As the body detoxes, our organs and systems are able to function as they should without being bogged down by the process of detoxification.  

Clear Mind

Lots of detox programs include rest and meditation as an integral piece of the process.  As toxins are removed from your body, the brain fog begins to lift.  Thinking clearly and using meditation to get in touch with your body during detoxification will not only teach you how you are supposed to feel when you are well, but it will also give you a deeper understanding of your body and how it works.

  1. My wife and I have been thinking about trying a weekly detox but aren’t sure where to start. I’m glad that you mentioned how detoxing can temporarily make acne worse in the beginning as this was a big concern for my wife. As long as it’s only temporary, she can take extra care of her skin for a few weeks to make up for it. We’ll have to refer to these once we start. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Great article on the wonderful practice of body detoxification! Detoxing really does benefit multiple bodily functions. I will say that depending on your detox program, you can experience some decreased energy (at least initially). Especially if you’re consuming mostly juices and minimal carbs.

  3. What I love with detox is its give me a fair and smooth skin, not only that I’m aware of the other benefits it gives thru our body. With proper exercise and diet, you can achieve the body that you dream of.

  4. I feel relieved when I read the whole blog. Those tips are all I need to be detoxed. I called it “inner peace”. At work, it won’t give me a healthy and stress-free environment. That’s why when I’m at home I always make sure I can make the most out of everything to be relieved.
