Are you aware that since Monsanto, DuPont and others have been GM'ing our foods/grains and "no body has complained" according to Supreme Court ruling, they have been allow to continue "patenting" seed and other plants. In the late 90's/early 00's...when we took our case before the Supreme Court to stop the patenting of plants (which by the way is against the US patent laws) they ruled in DuPont's favor 6-2 (w/1 abstaining since she owned DuPont stock) that according to Clarence Thomas (previous Monsanto employee, which is 1 of the biggest GMO suppliers of grain and the chemicals to spray on them)..."nobody has complained for 16 years" and we don't want to upset the "market" at this point. Meaning they didn't want to upset the huge chemical companies billion dollar industry for the sake of food prices and/or our health! So this mindset has been going on in our court system and big industry for over 25 years! It's going to be difficult to change the laws of this country (which allows GMO) since the Supreme Court basically made up a new law when they decided to go against existing law...unless we, the consumers, stop buying their products (which are in just about every kind of "boxed" item in the stores) and force them to think differently about how to make their billions!

The only issue that I have with the Harvard pyramid/plate is that they are still recommending vegetable oils and grains that are (at least here in the US) GM and not recommended by the nutritionally sound advise of many. Most meats are derived from sources that are fed GM feed. So, unless you can get only organic foods, you would be wise to take even Harvard's advise with a grain of salt! While I like the format of the Reverse Pyramid, I would rearrange it slightly and do for myself - I put fruits and vegetables at the bottom, then meats, dairy/healthy (to me) fats, nuts/seeds, and finally grains at the top. I am fortunate that I am single and can purchase all organic or grow my own when the season is right.

There are better alternatives: the new Healthy Eating Plate and the Healthy Eating Pyramid, both built by faculty members in the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health, in conjunction with colleagues at Harvard Health Publications. The Healthy Eating Plate fixes the flaws in USDA’s MyPlate, just as the Healthy Eating Pyramid rectifies the mistakes of the USDA’s food pyramids. Both the Healthy Eating Plate and the Healthy Eating Pyramid are based on the latest science about how our food, drink, and activity choices affect our health—and are unaffected by businesses and organizations with a stake in their messages.`.;*

Good idea about sauteeing them bacon and onions. Bacon makes everything better! Maybe I will finally venture into organ meats this year! /tm

I haven't ventured into organ meats myself, yet. I do have a package of frozen chicken livers that I don't know what to do with. I do know some people add ground organ meats to ground beef as a way to 'hide' it. I agree with you, butter and meat are delicious! /tm
