Do You Get 10,000 Steps a Day?

As you know, I made a goal for the month of April to walk at least 10,000 steps a day.  Well, here it is mid-May and I thought I would give you an update.

Friends, this goal has not been as easy to integrate as my other goals of drinking green drinks, oil pulling and dry brushing.

I have been counting my steps using my FitBit and they have been all over the place.  Some days I will have 10,000 or more.  Other days, I hover around 5,000.

I have been traveling a lot and I did have strep throat twice! (first round of antibiotics didn't work) so that has had an effect.  But, I hate to make excuses.

I am going to keep this as my goal through May.  I am also not going to freak out if I don't get the full 10,000 but rather go for an average of 10,000.  Then if I have a day that has 13,000 steps, that might make up for a day that only has 7,000.

I have been having fun with my FitBit and it is interesting to see just how sedentary or active I am in a given day!

I will have a new goal for June so keep an eye out for that!!

Do you use a FitBit or other pedometer?  What has your experience been?

  1. I don’t use a fitbit, but have tried to use pedometer apps on my iphone, and I find they don’t seem to be very accurate, but really, how can you tell unless you manually count your own steps all day and compare? And who has the time to do that?

    1. I find the fitbit to be fairly accurate. I have not counted my steps manually all day but have ‘tested’ it by counting steps for about 5 minutes or so and my count matches the fitbit’s count.

  2. I’ve had a fitbiit for a year now and I really like it. Like you, my daily counts can vary quite a bit, but I do usually average 10,000/day over the course of the week. Living in San Francisco without a car does help quite a bit. I’m also always WAY over the default 10 flights of stairs goal with all of the hills! I get 10 flights just running to the corner store!

I also find it is quite accurate for me. I’ve watched it updating live on the app on my phone while walking and it seems to really track quite closely with my gait.
