Do you have a child who is heading back to school and wondering how you can use essential oils?
Oh Lardy is committed to using Young Living Essential Oils as we feel they are the purest essential oils around.
There are so many that are great for kids, for adults and for back to school. I really feel we would benefit from using these in our homes AND in our classrooms.
Time to Wake Up!
Have a hard time getting the kids going in the morning? Diffuse essential oils in your kids’ bedrooms or in the kitchen in the mornings before heading out to school.
Here are some of morning diffuser favorites for kids:
- Bergamot (which has a slight citrus scent) and Ylang Ylang (which smells amazing – like an exotic flower) are nothing short of joyous in the morning. Together, it’s like sunshine to start your day.
- Joy is another blend that’s a favorite to diffuse in the morning. It also has Bergamot and Ylang Ylang, as well as Lemon, Tangerine and Roman Chamomile.
- Clarity (made with Basil, Rosemary and Peppermint) helps to promote a sense of clarity and alertness when diffused.
- Motivation (made with Roman Chamomile, Spruce and Lavender) promotes feelings of action and accomplishment when diffused. This blend enhances the ability to move forward and in a positive direction. What a great way to start the day!
- Peppermint smells lovely in the morning. Very fresh and makes me feel more perky!
You can even make your own Wake-Up blend in a roll-on (again Bergamot and Ylang Ylang is fantastic). Just add your favorite carrier oil and put it in your kid's backpack to use on the way to school.
PARENTS: You need your own wake-me-up blend too right? I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel like a zombie in the morning. That’s why I diffuse En-R-Gee (made with Rosemary, Nutmeg, Black Pepper and Lemongrass). It helps to uplift and energize. It’s a must-have oil blend for every busy parent.
Calming Occasional Nervousness
Is your kid starting a new school or have first-day-of-school jitters? Ease the transition with essential oils.
- Valor is one of my favorite blends – and a top seller with Young Living. It's made with Spruce, Blue Tansy, Frankincense and Rosewood. Apply to wrists, bottom of feet (my kids love this) or diffuse to feel empowered and uplifted. Apply topically to the bottom of the feet with a carrier oil or diffuse in the morning.
- Transformation smells wonderful diffused or applied topically (dilute with carrier oil). It's make with Lemon, Sacred Frankincense, Sandalwood and Peppermint to help replace negative beliefs with uplifting thoughts. Perfect for the first day of school, right?
- Envision (contains Spruce, Orange, Geranium and Rose) helps to stimulate feelings of creativity and resourcefulness, while encouraging a renewed faith in the future. Apply this oil topically or diffuse.
- White Angelica (made with Bergamot, White Angelica and Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood) promotes feelings of protection and security when diffused, and can be used to guard against negative energy. I love using this when I am going to be in a toxic situation or around toxic people.
- Tranquil is made with Lavender, Cedarwood and Roman Chamomile in a convenient roll-on that kids can take to school. It's comforting aromas is perfect for the first day of school too. Apply to the wrists or back of the neck as needed. Keep this roll-on in your child’s backpack to use before school.
Stay Focused
Does your child needs to stay focused during school or afterschool for a homework session? I know I do!! Try essential oils! These oils are great to apply to the bottom of the big toe (the Vita Flex point for the brain).
- Brain Power is a blend of essential oils high in sesquiterpenes – like Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood, Blue Cypress and Frankincense – to promote a sense of clarity and focus when used aromatically.
- Clarity (made with Basil, Rosemary and Peppermint) helps to promote a sense of clarity and alertness when diffused.
- Vetiver is grounding, calming, and stabilizing. Apply 1-2 drops on the bottom of feet or inhale for a few minutes in the morning and at bedtime. Can be combined with Cedarwood.
Support a Healthy Immune System
- Thieves (made with Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Rosemary, Eucalyptus Radiata and Lemon) is a powerful blend that may help to support health immune function.
- DiGize combines Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Fennel, Lemongrass, Anise and Patchouli essential oils to support healthy digestion.
More Oils to Have On Hand
- Raven is made with Ravintsara, Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiata and other essential oils that are deeply soothing when applied to the chest and throat.
- RC contains 3 different Eucalyptus oils, Peppermint and others that create an uplifting and inspiring aroma. Diffuse or rub on feet or chest.
- The Golden Touch Kit is a wonderful kit to have on hand. It includes seven 5 ml bottles of oil blends, including DiGize, EndoFlex, JuvaFlex, Melrose, Raven, RC, and Thieves. This kit is very economical at just $84.75 with a wholesale membership – that’s about $12 per bottle!
Essential Oils Made Especially For Kids
The KidScents Oil Collection is an all-in-one kit of pure, natural alternatives that can help comfort children through the common ups and downs of childhood. This is a great kit to keep at daycare, grandparents’ home and, of course, your home too.
This kit includes six, mild essential oil blends, formulated just for children (and already diluted with carrier oils): GeneYus, Owie, Bite Buster, TummyGize, SniffleEase and SleepyIze.
NOTE: This kit is out of stock, but you can still order the individual oil blends (except Bite Buster). GeneYus is a must-have for my kids during homework time, and TummyGize is great to use before and after meals (pack it in your kid’s lunchbox).
Another Way to Support Your Child
While I do think the power of essential oils is amazing, they aren't miracle workers. There are other things that can help your child focus, stay calm, go to sleep, etc. Proper nutrition is paramount.
Ditch the processed foods and opt for a real food, nourishing diet full of healthy fats, fruits and vegetables and clean, pastured proteins. Limit (or avoid) artificially colored and flavored, ‘fake food' products.
We may think it is okay as a ‘treat' once in awhile…but it really isn't once in awhile…it is ALL THE TIME! It is amazing what a nutrient dense diet can do for a child (and for an adult).
Supplements for Kids
Even when kids eat a healthy diet, they can use a little more help in getting all the nutrition they need. Young Living has a full line of nutritional supplements – all infused with essential oils and made with clean, wholesome ingredients.
Here are two nutritional supplements my daughter takes every day:
- KidScents MightyVites deliver a full spectrum of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Designed to provide balanced nutrition, MightyVites use only nutrient-dense, whole-food sources like NingXia wolfberry, Orange cream and wild berry flavors.
- KidScents MightyZyme is an all-natural, vegetarian chewable that may support proper digestion of proteins, carbohydrates and fats in children.
Calming and Relaxing
Here are some of my favorite calming essential oil blends:
- Peace & Calming is made with Tangerine, Ylang Ylang, Blue Tansy, Orange and Patchouli, and smells great when diffused. It can also be applied to the bottom of feet with V-6 or other carrier oil.
- Tranquil is made with Lavender, Cedarwood and Roman Chamomile in a convenient roll-on that kids can take to school. It's comforting aromas is perfect for the first day of school too. Apply to the wrists or back of the neck as needed.
- Grounding is made with White Fir, Pine, Angelica, Spruce, Cedarwood, Juniper and Ylang Ylang. This balancing blend is excellent to diffuse at the end of the day or apply topically diluted with V-6 or other carrier oil.
- Stress Away contains copaiba, lime, vanilla, cedarwood, lavender and ocotea. It comes in a handy roll on to easily apply to the bottoms of your feet, neck, wrists, wherever!!
- Lavender can be diffused for a calming and peaceful scent. Add to nighttime baths or apply to bottoms of feet, pillow, etc.
Best Way to Start
If you are new to oils, what is the best way to start? All of this information can be overwhelming. I would suggest becoming a wholesale member with Young Living and getting the Premium Starter Kit. It contains 11 of the most used essential oils (many that were in this list).
If you are already using oils, start slow and go with what you know! Add oils as you feel necessary . It is fun to experiment and see what works best for you and your children.
