How I became a “Granola Hippy”

The term “Granola Hippy” is what my husband so lovingly refers to me as these days. It wasn't always this way. I used to be so concerned about fat-free everything. I counted calories, we avoided beef. I used to drink Slim Fast! I was far from granola! While I certainly feel like my switch to a healthier way of living was over night, it actually started sooner than I thought.
When my son was born and it was time to feed him solid foods, I knew that I wanted to make my own. I don't feel this was for nutritional reasons, at first. It was purely financial. Why would I pay a gazillion dollars for a jar of bananas when I can mash my own banana? As I continued to make my own baby food, I realized that I wanted to make more things from scratch. At this point things really started to snowball for me. I wanted to grow my own food, I wanted chickens, I wanted to bake my own bread!
As I started to research all of these things, I stumbled upon the world of Real Food and it simply blew my mind! Healthy fats are good for us? I have to soak my grain? Fermented what? This whole new way of thinking spoke to me and I had to know more!
I read every book I could get my hands on. I scoured the internet for Real Food blogs that could teach me new skills! I took several e-courses to get me started on things I knew nothing about! I loved it all, but I was definitely trying to drink from a fire hose.
These days I know what kombucha is! I make my own broth, ferment many foods, and value where my food comes from. When I was searching for information on Real Food and traditional food practices, I spent MANY hours searching the internet hopping from site to site gathering bits and pieces. It was overwhelming to say the least. Where do I start, how do I begin?
If someone would have told me I could have a wealth of knowledge about Real Food and healthy living delivered directly to my email inbox in the form of books and e-courses I would have thought I had died and gone to heaven information heaven!
