I am not sure if all of our readers know this, but I recently became a Certified Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.  I work with clients on changing habits, setting goals and living healthier lives.  I love what I do both one on one with clients and in group sessions and workshop type settings!

However, sometimes I struggle myself with goal setting!  (Just keeping it real here.)  I don't like to set huge goals, like resolutions for the year, but rather smaller goals I can easily tackle and succeed at.  But, often I forget to do that because I am so passionate about helping other people reach their goals.

So, I have decided to start a new series.  I am going to publicly set a goal for the week and tell you a bit about it.  I really believe by setting an intention…such as I will eat green vegetables every day or I will exercise 3 times a week…is more successful than I am going to eat healthier or I am going to exercise more.

Each week, I will set my intention.  Then, the following week, I will let you know how I did and set my new goal.  If you are interested, join me!!!

This week, I am going to add oil pulling to my daily regimen.  I have tried it before but never really stuck with it.

Do you know about oil pulling?

It is an ancient Aruyvedic method that is essentially it is like using oil (I like coconut) as a mouthwash and swishing it around for up to 20 minutes.  Then you spit it out and rinse.

The benefits are numerous such as healthy gums and teeth, improved digestion and clearer skin.

I plan on writing a more detailed post about oil pulling soon but if you want to learn more check out my friend, Ashlee's experience with oil pulling, an article on 3 reasons to use oil pulling and check out this book on oil pulling by Dr. Bruce Fife.

I love helping my clients reach there goals.  I find it very helpful to set an intention for something you want to accomplish.  So here it is universe…

My intention for this week is to oil pull each morning!

Goal setting and stating intentions are important! I intend to oil pull every morning this week! - www.ohlardy.com

I will probably do it first thing while I shower and get ready for my day.  I figure that will be the easiest way to get it done.  I have a small mason jar of coconut oil in a mason jar on my bathroom counter.  Makes it easy enough to get started, right?

Will update next week how it went!  Are you interested in trying oil pulling or have you done it before?  Would love to hear in the comments!

  1. yes! I’ve tried oil pulling twice now and both times it made terribly ill. I sure wish I knew what it was that was so toxic in me. I’d like to work through it but honestly scared to try it again.

      1. It is my understanding from my training that you need to choose an oil that benefits your body type according to
Aruyvedic medicine. Maybe your choice in oil was the issue.

  2. I am actually doing it right now while I type! I have wanted to start but the thought of swishing oil inside my mouth was not appealing. I finally decided to go for it and I plan to do it in the morning as well. As of the exercising..funny you mentioned. I decided this is it! I will walk at least 5 times a week..and guess what…I am! So let’s do it together..motivation is an awesome thing!
