Homemade Dish Soap

I have been on a journey to detoxify my home for a long time. If I could do it my way, I would have done it all at once!! Of course, that was completely overwhelming as my research on how to detoxify my home took up a lot of my time. From there I decided to do one thing at a time. I would research it and master it. I started with dryer sheets and fabric softener. Knowing how terribly toxic those items were, it was important for me to start there. I replaced those with dryer balls and then went from there! Taking baby steps is slowly transforming my home into a less toxic one.
Despite my baby steps and my gradual efforts of detoxifying my home, I had still yet to make my own dish soap. It was lower on my priority list, but still there nonetheless. One evening I found myself without dish soap. My store bought dye and fragrance free Dawn was empty. There was no time like the present to figure out how to make my own homemade dish soap! Friends, this recipe is SO easy to make I laugh at myself that it took me so long to do it.
When I set out to create this, I knew I had Castile soap on hand. I also knew that vegetable glycerin is good at cutting grease. So, I started with those two ingredients. I realized that I could water down the soap a bit to get it to last longer and I wanted it to smell nice. I added water and essential oils to the mix to make it smell amazing and BOOM! I was in the dishwashing business again. Now I have a non-toxic dish soap recipe that I can use again and again! And it is SO easy to make!
Homemade Dish Soap Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 5 drops Purification Essential Oil
- 5 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil
- 5 drops Lemon Essential Oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon Vegetable Glycerine
- 1 cup Castile Soap
Instructions
- Add the salt to your container.
- Add your Essential Oils and swirl to mix.
- Add the water and shake to combine.
- Add the glycerin and the Castile Soap.
- Shake to combine.
Notes
