So, you have seen Tamara explore her stitch fix in August and September. But what you didn't see was my July Stitch Fix. I was SO excited for it to come. And when I got the box it was almost like Christmas morning. I had high hopes for a few items, but in the end they failed. I sent EVERYTHING back. I was so bummed. How could they be so wrong? I thought I filled out everything perfectly. I even sent her to my style board on pinterest. My faith in Stitch Fix plummeted and I quit. Yup, I quit Stitch Fix.
But then I saw Tamara's August fix and I had some renewed hope. Could Stitch Fix be redeemed? I had to give them a shot. I mean, why not?
What’s Stitch Fix?
Stitch Fix is an online stylist program. You fill out your own Stitch Fix Style Profile and their personal stylists will handpick five clothing items and accessories unique to YOUR taste, budget and lifestyle! You can buy what you like and return the rest with free shipping.
What’s the Catch?
There really isn’t one. First you sign up and let them know all about your style on a pretty extensive survey (glamorous? edgy? low-rise jeans? preppy?) and you pay a $20 styling fee for the five items to be shipped to you. If you do not keep any of the five items, you are only out $20. If you keep anything from the selection, the $20 is applied to your order. AND if you keep all five items, you get 25% off your entire order!!! You can ship any items you don’t want back to Stitch Fix for free in their handy pre-paid mailer.
Benefits of a Fix
What are the benefits of participating in Stitch Fix? They are many!
1. Shop from home and try on in your own room! I never have time to go shopping, so it is low on the priority list. With Stitch Fix, you can try on these new items in your own room, with your own accessories and clothes.
2. Free shipping and return shipping.
3. Benefits of a stylist for free or at the most $20 (if you don’t keep any of your items). I love being able to work with a stylist who will pick items for me that I may never pick for myself. They are aware of brands and pieces that I would never know existed!
4. Gets better over time. For me, the first time was a BUST! The second time, it got a little better! As you give feedback with each order, your stylist can really get to know what works for you!
5. Styling Tips. With each order you get free styling tips with two different suggestions on how to wear each item. I love these suggestions! I just wish I had all of the pieces that are on the card!!
Kelly's October Stitch Fix
Of course, I remembered that I needed to try on all of these clothes and get pictures JUST before the sun was going to set. I quickly threw together outfits and had my 10 year old son take pictures with my phone. Not the best quality (or angles) but you get the idea.
Review: I did NOT like this dress. While the color might be something I would choose, the fit of this dress was no good. I felt frumpy and as if it were weighing me down. The necklace, however, I LOVE! RETURN the dress. KEEP the necklace.
I paired this top with a pair of my favorite white cropped jeans. I knew that I liked the cut of the shirt and the stripes. The only part I was unsure about was the collar. I know that this top would go well with a few items in my closet. The collar adds a bold statement that I like, and I don't have anything like it. KEEP.
I had higher hopes for this dress than the first. I like the pattern and the strong black and white contrast. But I don't do frilly. The sleeves were too fluffy and the dress was a tad shorter than I like. A capped sleeve and less flowy-ness would have made this dress work for me. RETURN.
I had mentioned in the video that I had asked for jeans. Boot cut, or regular – whatever. I need a pair of jeans that aren't cropped! In their note they mentioned that they didn't have any, so they sent me something a little different and fun – a boyfriend jean with rolled cuff. I knew that I would send these back because I already have a cropped jean I like. But I tried them on anyway. The main problem with these jeans is that they are too big. I was surprised they didn't fall off of me as I walked outside to have this picture taken. But isn't my top cute?? RETURN!
I will say, that even though I didn't LOVE everything this time, my faith in Stitch Fix has been renewed. It is such a fun process and I look forward to what the stylist will find for me as she learns my style. I recently completed the Dressing Your Truth course and learned I am a Type 4. I am relieved, too, because everything in my closet is Type 4!
I am looking forward to next month! Are you curious to try Stitch Fix! Go for it and tell us what you think!
