You have made the switch to real food. You are reading ingredient labels more closely. You are choosing more nourishing ingredients. But are you choosing safe cosmetics?
But I bet there is one thing you might not be thinking about yet…
What you put on your skin!
Our skin is our largest organ and the beauty and personal care products we use can have a profound impact on our health and wellness.
Most of the ingredients you put on your skin go directly into your bloodstream. Have you ever stopped to think about how many products you use in a day? Your soap, shampoo, conditioner, shave cream, lotion, facial serums and creams, makeup. deodorant, sunscreen? How about your kids?
Did you know…
The European Union bans or restricts over 1300 chemicals in skincare and the US only bans 11???
The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.
There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don't have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry.
Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including, but not limited to asthma, learning disabilities, cancer and infertility) are on the rise, and due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it's in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home?
It is insane!!!
If you are focused on eating nutritious foods, getting proper sleep, regular chiropractic care and all the other areas of optimal wellness but are neglecting what you put on your skin, you may be putting your health at risk. Take a look in your bathroom cabinet. Could you stand to get add some non-toxic beauty products and safe cosmetics to your routine?
Free Safe Cosmetics PDF and Webinar
I find this all so fascinating and I want to share with you a fabulous PDF my friend, Ashley Koff, created that you can download and print out! She also has a link to a fabulous webinar on the importance of Better Beauty!!!
Ashley gives a great lesson for getting “better beauty from your food (like broccoli, chocolate and hemp), from your supplements (stressed about better beauty or life in general? Avoid wrinkles and headaches with magnesium and other key nutrients while skipping supplements that can irritate or harm your systems), and from your skincare…and it’s all prepared and ready for you to consume HERE.”
Kelly and I have slowly made the switch to using less toxic products for our personal care and it continues to be an ongoing transition. I am not perfect and there are a couple things I have a hard time switching (hair color, dry shampoo, for example).
I have compiled some of my favorite recipes and products that I use to help me detox my beauty products. I would love to know what products and recipes you are using! Let me know in the comments!
