The Superwoman Slim Down – Week One is Complete!

Alright folks, today I am finishing Week 1 of the Superwoman Slim Down Real Food Detox.  So far so good.

For those of you new to the party, on September 1st, I started a 3 week real food detox called the Superwoman Slim Down designed by my friend Kristen Boucher from Mix Wellness.  (Here is a post from last week giving more of the low down on the Superwoman Slim Down.)

What is the Superwoman Slim Down?

The Superwoman Slim Down is a fully-supported “done-for you” 21 day 100% REAL FOOD, hunger-free program led by experienced registered nurse, certified health and wellness coach, and certified specialist in fitness nutrition, Kristen Boucher!

She will teach you step-by-step how to feel better than you ever imagined in your own skin, while eating delicious, nutrient-dense, metabolism-boosting foods and (finally) making your health a priority! But don’t take our word for it! Check out what these former Superwomen have to say about it here.

How Was Week 1?

Week 1 was a phase in process where I was guided to start to eliminate certain foods from my diet (alcohol, sugar, gluten, etc.).  I will say that week 1 really wasn't so bad for me.  Since I eat clean already, many of the changes weren't too much of a stretch.  I used her recipe list and menu chart to help plan my meals and was quite satisfied.  Her helpful calendar of what to eliminate and when was very helpful and, while I did rearrange some things a bit, I was able to use it as a guide.

I felt very energetic, slept well and really did not experience too many detox symptoms except a slight headache in the morning (NO COFFEE!) and a white, fuzzy tongue.  I definitely do not feel hungry as I am able to eat plenty of food…just limited on what ‘types' of food.

I am loving focusing on a variety of detox techniques also: oil pulling, dry brushing, detox baths, steam showers with essential oils, rebounding, sleeping (the best!) and drinking a lot of green drinks.

What's Up For Week 2?

Week 2 will be a bit more tough for me as the dietary limitations are pretty extreme.  However, I have prepped ahead and made plenty of salads, rice, beans, coconut milk/chia seed puddings, soups and more.  I used many of the recipes from the Superwoman Slim Down Program and tweaked some of my own favorites.

One huge annoyance is I have prepped for making lots of smoothies and guess what happened?  My Vitamix broke!  The blender part won't turn anymore.  Luckily it is under warranty but unluckily for the cleanse, the new blender pitcher won't arrive for two weeks.  I dug out my old ‘regular' blender from the basement and we shall see how that does.  I have been so spoiled with the Vitamix!

Cooking for my family is a bit more challenging this week.  They will eat everything I am eating but I will have to cook some foods I can not eat and that will be slightly frustrating.  I do have two social events (a fun golf outing and a concert) next weekend but am prepared to keep on the detox!  I can be the designated driver! : ) Kristen suggests starting this detox when your social calendar is clear but it is so hard for me to block off a full 3 weeks.

Why Am I Doing This?

I was asked tonight on Instagram, why I was doing this and that is a great question.  I think the name of the program, The Superwoman Slim Down, is a bit misleading.  This detox is not necessarily about weight loss (although it can be a great way to jumpstart weight loss for sure).  Rather it is a time to clean out your body, ridding it of toxins, resetting your system, if you will.  We had a very fun summer but it was a bit too fun…full of cocktails, eating out, cocktails, and more!  I was beginning to feel bloated, tired, brain foggy, just all around blah.  I can't wait to see how I feel at the end!

Keep An Eye Out For My Next Update!

I will be updating next week with a follow up to let you know how my Week 2 went and what I have in store for Week 3!  Wish me luck!!
