4 Ways to Heal Your Eczema

Eczema.  The allergic skin inflammation that results in a dry, itchy rash that just won't go away.  Your doctor may have told you that there is no cure for eczema and you can only control it with a steroid cream between flare ups.  Your doctor also may have even done allergy testing on you or your child with no definitive results.  So, why do you still have eczema if you have no apparent allergy?  Allergy testing only tests for a full blown allergy.  However, food sensitivities slip under the radar.  

Eczema actually stems from internal issues – usually originating in the gut.  A leaky gut can allow toxins, foods, and bacteria to creep into your blood stream.  This then leads to an inflammatory response which can cause a whole host of issues, including eczema.  Often healing a leaky gut can allow one to heal eczema naturally.  

Treating eczema with creams and lotions only soothes the itchiness.  It doesn't treat the problem, or the cause.  Until you identify what is causing your eczema, your flare ups will continue – to no end.

Four Ways to Heal Your Eczema

Identify environmental toxins

Start with the things that touch your body.  Body soap, shampoos, laundry detergent, fabric softener, perfumes.  Get rid of it all and replace it with something hypo-allergenic.  Even if what you are using is hypo-allergenic try something new.  Take regular detox baths to help your body eliminate these toxins.  Think about your environment.  What might you be exposed to that your body may be reacting to.  This is detective work.  Start ruling things out.

Identify dietary triggers 

After examining the things that you put ON your body, now you need to evaluate what you put IN your body.  The best way to do this is with an elimination diet.  You will be removing highly sensitive foods from your diet and then slowly adding them back in to see what you are sensitive to.  Foods to eliminate are dairy, wheat, alcohol, caffeine, all processed foods, nuts, and eggs – just to name a few!  

Using the GAPS protocol is an excellent way to eliminate foods that trigger your eczema. 

Boost immunity 

After identifying food sensitivities, you can also use foods to boost your immunity!  Foods like bone broth, fermented foods like sauerkraut, kombucha, and dilly carrots all are great boosts for your immunity! 

Heal the gut with nutrient dense foods

Lots of greens, healthy fats, soaked grains, pasture raised meats and eggs are all nutrient dense foods that can aid in healing your gut.  Of course lots of fermented foods and bone broth are incredibly healing as well.

  1. I totally agree with the first two points on identifying potential triggers, and I would certainly recommend it as the first course of action before any treatment. If you can avoid these triggers, it is already half the battle won! From there on, a holistic approach is needed to restore the imbalances in your body to keep eczema flares to a minimum.
