Tired? Exhausted? Dragging? Want to nap? Sluggish? Ever have these feelings?
Who hasn't?
I don't like to perk myself up using extra coffee, caffeinated soda or pills. Now, don't get me wrong, I do enjoy my morning cup of joe…I just don't like to drink it throughout the day. The caffeine makes me jittery. You know Oh Lardy is all about real food and healthy living so I often look for natural ways to boost energy.
10 Tips to Naturally Boost Your Energy
1. Breathe
If you are feeling a little sluggish, take some deep breaths! Deep breathing increases the oxygen to your brain and can help perk you up. I like to take 4 or 5 deep breaths, breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth. It is amazing how just this little tip can help you get a boost of energy quickly!
2. Liver
Adding liver to your diet is a great way to naturally boost your energy! Liver is a nutritional powerhouse, one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. I like to add it to things like chili, tacos, sloppy joes. Sometimes I will even grate frozen liver onto my food. Liver is full of energizing B vitamins. Of course, as with any animal product, liver should come from pastured cows or chickens. Not into eating liver? No worries. You can take dessicated liver as a supplement! I like Perfect Dessicated Liver from Perfect Supplements, from grass fed, organically raised cows. Now there is no excuse to miss out on liver!
3. Sleep
Here is an obvious one, right? How many people feel they get enough sleep? Probably not many! I know I need at least 8 hours or I feel terrible. It is vital to make sleep a priority. Going to bed and waking up around the same time every day can help you keep a healthy sleeping rhythm. Trouble sleeping? Do some research to figure out why and get to the bottom of it! Power naps (10-20 minute naps) can work wonders too!
4. Exercise
I know it sounds counter-intuitive when you are feeling tired to go exercise. But a nice workout can boost your energy for the rest of the day. Hit the gym. Take a nice, brisk walk (outside in the sun!). Do 100 air squats. Do something. Get the blood pumping and you will find your fatigue fading!
5. Cordyceps
Have you ever heard of Cordyceps? No? Me either until recently! Cordyceps is an adaptogenic herbal supplement that boosts energy, endurance, and overall vitality. Cordyceps is a fungus that traditionally comes from China and it grows on the bodies of caterpillars.
The Perfect Cordyceps is organically grown under carefully regulated conditions in the USA, without the need for caterpillars! All Perfect Cordyceps is lab tested to ensure it is nutrient dense. It is considered one of the most important herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine. You can take capsules of cordyceps as a supplement. I like Perfect Cordyceps from Perfect Supplements because I know they are good quality and does not contains fillers or yucky ingredients.
6. Rhodiola Rosea
Rhodiola is an adaptogenic herb that has been used for over 3000 years to help increase energy, endurance, strength and mental focus. Rhodiola is widely regarded as herb that boosts energy, increases attention span, mood and productivity. I like Perfect Rhodiola Rosea from Perfect Supplements because it is sourced directly from the Siberian Mountains, freeze dried to protect nutrients, lab tested for purity and free of added ingredients.
7. Perfect Revive
Perfect Revive is another great energy boosting supplement from Perfect Supplements. It contains Cordyceps, Rhodiola, Grape Extract and Acai. It is a great way to increase energy and reduce stress. This combination can also boost athletic endurance and improve cognitive function.
8. Eat
Feeling like you are dragging a bit? Be sure you are eating well throughout the day. Sometimes I feel tired when my blood sugar drops. Grab a healthy snack! Often when we get the 3pm lull, we head to a vending machine for a snack full of refined sugar, carbs, chemicals. There are many different theories on the best type of food to eat for energy, but I like something with a mix of protein, healthy fat and fiber (handful of nuts, fruit and full fat yogurt, frozen granola bar, a small smoothie). Eating a real food, nourishing diet throughout the day will satiate you and give you energy to keep going…without relying on a candy bar rush!
9. Water
Sometimes when I am dragging in the afternoon, a good drink of water perks me right back up. On days where I am particularly busy, I forget drink enough water. Dehydration can cause a feeling of sluggishness. Drinking water is one of the simplest ways to boost your energy naturally. I like to add citrus to my water to make it tastier!
10. Coconut Oil
Really, what can't coconut oil be used for? At Oh Lardy, we use it as a base for our favorite homemade lotion, deodorant, even a personal lubricant!! Coconut oil is full of medium chained triglycerides which provide a great energy source for the body. I like to put coconut oil in my coffee, smoothies and sometimes just eat a spoonful! Finding a quality coconut oil is very important and a great one to try is Perfect Coconut Oil from Perfect Supplements. It is 100% pure, cold-pressed, organic, extra-virgin, unrefined and raw! Those are all the things I look for in coconut oil!!
